The required education to become a doctor is one of the most intensive of any occupation. I will take 4 years undergraduate school and 4 years medical school to complete the doctor required education and earn various doctor certification and certificates. There is another 3 up to 8 years of education for internship and residency if the student decides to specialize in a medical field. All the states and territories of America require doctors to have a license and a complete set of doctor requirements in order to practice.
What courses count toward Doctors education requirements
The common courses a Premedical student takes during undergraduate studies are physics, mathematics, biology, English, organic and inorganic chemistry, social science and humanities. In medical school, students have to take courses like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, psychology, pharmacology, pathology, microbiology, medical ethics, and the laws governing medicine. These are the subjects they must take towards acquiring a doctor degree.
What levels of degrees are available for Doctors
- Prior to entering medical school, a student should complete an undergraduate degree of 4 years then take the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test).
- To achieve the Medical Doctor degree, the student must graduate from medical school which takes another 4 years. Before the student graduates they are required to take the Step 1 USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) and parts Step 2 which is the Clinical Skills and Clinical Knowledge.
- Doctors who want to practice in the US will be required to take their PGY-1 internship for one year and pass Step 3 of the USMLE.
- If the graduate decides to take a field of specialization they will have to undergo their residency or specialized training.

The doctor continuing education leads to acquiring the necessary licenses and certifications to be able to practice the profession. Another 1 to 7 years must be completed to acquire graduate medical education.
